Chief Tom Bergamine has been married to Debbie for over 30 years and they have three sons. Oldest son, Tommy, resides in California. Middle son, Tony, is a deputy with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. Youngest son, Joey, is currently attending classes at Fayetteville State University and recently graduated from the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) at Fayetteville Technical Community College. His late father, Thomas George Bergamine was a retired New York City Police Officer.
Chief Tom Bergamine served three years in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer and was stationed here at Fort Bragg when his enlistment ended. He became a Fayetteville Police Officer in September 1978 and has risen through the ranks to the current position of Chief of Police.
Chief Tom Bergamine has a Masters of Justice Administration degree from Methodist University, a Bachelor of Science degree from Fayetteville State University, and he attended the FBI National Academy and graduated with the 211th session in December 2002.

Chief Bergamine actively participates as a baseball coach for the varsity team at Terry Sanford High School. The Fayetteville Police Department also actively participates in the “Badges for Baseball” program with the Westover Recreation Center. The Fayetteville Police Department also works closely with the Great Oak Youth Development Center, Reading Buddies Program.
